Just some more comments that might be helpful. I have a laptop running kubuntu, the thing is a champ, rarely have any problems even with the same set of applications (claws-mail, firefox, VirtualBox, multi-gnome-terminal). My guess is that my instability issues revolve around the fact that the system in question uses a mouse/monitor connected via a 2-port KVM so I can share my mouse/monitor/keyboard with another windows box. I've always had some minor issues with Linux and KVM switches so maybe this will point to some problems. My wife said she noticed the crashing most often when using the mouse to either scroll a web page using the wheel or even just moving the mouse, which is done quite a bit while browsing.
With that, let me know if there are any other files I can attach to help. I will also try the system off the KVM for a while to see if it stabilizes. I'm not at the computer in question now so I cannot send the model for the KVM, I will do that later.
