Hi Jeremy. The problem I was having with "gedit" and "Open Office" has basically disappeared in recent versions of Ubuntu and with the computer I am now using. Since I started using this computer (even with Ubuntu 9.04) I do not think I have had any instances of the cut and paste function copying the buffer to random places in the text body, when I press the Ctrl-V key combination.
Now I am running: Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic), Gnome 2.28.1, Kernel 2.6.31-20-generic, GCC version 4.4.1 (i486-linux-gnu) on a GenuineIntel, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz By the way, I work mostly in "gedit" because I write positional papers as HTML documents. And that was where I was getting most of random action from the cut and paste functions, although it also was occurring in the "Open Office" word processor. Thanks for the input.
