Hello, please run apport-collect 537648 to collect and attach the
relevant logs to this bug report.
I'm trying to understand your issues, apparently 1) you required
nomodeset to be able to install which means nouveau is problematic on
your machine. 2) The gdm restarts are plymouth's fault and you can
remove splash from the kernel command line to fix it in the meantime
until the package is fixed. 3) "the same issue" is happening with the
proprietary drivers. which of those issues are you referring to so I can
reassign this bug? Thanks!
