** Description changed: I opened the volume control application and selected "Sound Preferences" Then I selected the "Input tab" and choose a non-default device. I did the same with the "Output tab". Then I opened System from Admistration. The program asked me "Did you hear speech played back?" I selected No. This is all that I know of the problem. I'm using an ASUS Eee PC 900 installed with Ubuntu 9,10.
