I tried running the command you suggested. I didn't notice anything crash as a result.
You have to bear in mind that this may have been a result of an upgrade to v10.04 from 9.10 that did not complete. The upgrade was stopped at configuring NTP (?). I left it like that for over half-an-hour and nothing changed. The system was active but the upgrade window was unresponsive. I hit CTRL-C in an attempt to cancel the upgrade but all that happened as a result of that was that the screen eventually went black. I pressed the power button to turn it off, then attempted to start up as normal. X was not displaying anything so I again hard-restarted the PC. When GRUB came up I noticed a recovery option. I chose that. From what I can tell it attempted to reinstall missing and erroneous packages. When it was done I started X (startx). It didn't seem right, I restarted it again. When it came up there were many crashes. I reported several, this was one. -- package myspell-en-za 1:3.2.0~rc2-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script killed by signal (Killed) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/542266 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
