Right, so no backports modules installed. Anyway, as seen in your dmesg,
something seriously went wrong when detecting your sound card.

A few ideas:
* Could we confirm that your hardware isn't broken? 
* Does it happen every time you reboot the system (also try powering down, wait 
a few minutes and then turn it on again)?
* You could also try installing a daily sound driver snapshot from 
ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev and see if that solves the problem
* If you can figure out what package upgrade caused the problem, that would be 
most helpful. Was there a kernel upgrade? Can you boot the older kernel and see 
if the problem is still there?
