A few ideas: * Could we confirm that your hardware isn't broken? * Does it happen every time you reboot the system (also try powering down, wait a few minutes and then turn it on again)? * You could also try installing a daily sound driver snapshot from ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev and see if that solves the problem * If you can figure out what package upgrade caused the problem, that would be most helpful. Was there a kernel upgrade?
