@GerryFerdinandus: Since we suspect that this bug-report is about an issue with nouveau (an open-source driver for Nvidia cards) and your system has an ATI-card, I think it's better to report a new bug about the issue you're experiencing . Feel free to link this bug in your new bug-report-description if you think it's relevant. Have you tried booting with 'nomodeset'?
