** Description changed:

my laptop's western digital hard disk seems to get hotter in ubuntu , i have
dual boot installation with vista and in vista the hard disk seems to run
cooler ,but in ubuntu it stays hotter even when there is no disk usage, when in
vista my hard disk temperature averages around 44 deg C,but when i boot to
ubuntu it steadily climbs to 51 deg C at idle, and stays there ,when there is
heavy disk activity it gets even hotter,i can feel the heat when i place my
hand over to the keyboard.i had this problem in ubuntu 9.04 and again with
ubuntu 9.10.
- this only occurs when i have im plugged in to AC,but while in battery it
seems to run normal.
+ this only occurs when im plugged in to AC,but while in battery it seems to
run normal.

BUT in battery the load cylce count value increases abnormally, the load
cycle count value in my 6 months old drive has reached 19600, and it seems to
increase only when in battery on ubuntu.
i fear that running ubuntu may damage my hard drive, so i fear i cannot use
ubuntu in my laptop for more than 15-30 mins at a stretch due to these problems.
