Public bug reported: libubuntuone 0.2.101-0ubuntu2 adds a new depends on ubuntuone-client- gnome which forces the installation of the client. ubuntu-desktop has ubuntuone-client-gnome as recommends only, thus it used to be possible to not install the client if one elected to do so. However with the recent change ubuntuone-client-gnome becomes a mandatory install. Please allow it to be optional again.
