To mjg: Yes, does not happen with i386. And like I also told above, setting any vga=NNN (NNN being a number, not "ask" etc.) works also on amd64, but without it (ie. by default) it crashes. On my computer, the caps lock does not flash, whether or not the keyboard is connected via USB or USB-to-PS/2 adapter.
The graphics card is Sapphire X800 GTO Ultimate (Ultimate meaning passive cooling with heatpipes), so same manufacturer as Cesare's, but a different model. X800 GTO is usually a rebranded X850 Pro (R480) I think with lower clockspeeds. I'm not sure which one is the exact BIOS that my card has been flashed with (and I can't see the memory speed markings because there is a rather sturdy heat sink / pipes over it), but here you go: http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/Sapphire.X800GTO.256.Samsung16_050823.bin and http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/Sapphire.X800GTO.256.Samsung20_050823.bin (from http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/?search=x800gto&Submit=Search). I think those should be close enough, since I haven't seen BIOS updates for this Sapphire card. Now that I took the card out, I can also confirm that there is _no problem_ when using the integrated ATI XPRESS 200 graphics that is onboard my MSI RS482M4-ILD motherboard. -- Feisty crashes after grub if usplash enabled (amd64) https://launchpad.net/bugs/86666 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
