This hit me as well last night in a Karmic - Lucid upgrade.  Also, in
Karmic, I had already had 6 workspaces configured, and desktop wall
turned on with sliding and such... none of that was enabled, and I am
stuck with 2 workspaces and no way to enable more.

That's the worst part because I use 4 - 6 workspaces to organize my
workflow throughout the day, so for me, this is a big issue.
