Can you try to reproduce the problem in Lucid by installing the driver
from Jockey, please?

Then (if X crashes), boot in recovery mode and:
1) save your logs:
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log /home/$your_user_name_here/
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old /home/$your_user_name_here/

2) disable the driver from jockey by typing:
jockey-text -d fglrx

3) Reboot by typing "reboot"

and attach the logs.
