I have moved to 64 bit lucid and installed alsa backports (in the hopes that
the fix will come that way sometime soon).
I will update the bug report using apport-collect to sync with my current setup.

** Description changed:

There is no sound by default and I have added the ubuntu-audio-dev ppa
to my package sources and have the latest packages and still there is no
  sound.

My guess is the card is recognized.
I have tried adding "options snd-hda-intel model=basic" to
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa_base.conf to no avail.

I have tried using the debugging guide(s):
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

Here is the alsa db link, created by alsa_info.sh
