I found my problem was the incorrect links on the DVD drive. After I set them correctly (I think I had wrongly set it up as Cable Select) all is good.

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Installed Ubuntu 8.10, updated to latest available revisions without issue, DVD drive present during install, after required reboot, no dvd drive, no devices present in /dev that would lead to an optical drive. This is a new laptop, a Lenovo Ideapad Y710 - 2GB Ram - 250 GB HDD - OptiArc DVD-RW - Intel 4965agn wireless - Broadcom NetLink BCM5906M Fast Ethernet PCI Express - Lenovo EasyCam - Intel HD Audio (ALC888). Everything, but the DVD, works flawlessly. Please help, I need the DVD drive when I'm on the road for work, and an external unit is not on option. This problem also influence Ubuntu10.04. And I find that while grub2 ran, the LED of DVD would be lighted. I'm not good at English, so do you know what I mean?
