I can see your point, especially since capital Free is sometimes used to
refer to libre and free to gratis.  So here's what I propose:

Description: Virtual machine player from VMware
 The free VMware Player lets you run pre-built virtual machines on
 your desktop.  You can run multiple operating systems
 side-by-side...

This gets rid of the capital Free but leaves the lower one in the
extended description in so that people know that it is gratis.  This is
important because products like Workstation can be downloaded for "free"
on vmware.com, but you have to pay for the license key or register for a
30-day trial.
