This problem caused me quite a headache trying to sort out poor graphics
performance issues I was experiencing.  I wasted a lot of time trying
different video drivers and configurations until I realized that glx
gears was reporting that it could not access /dev/nvidiactl, which is in
the video group.  I added my user to the group and now my video
performance is great.  This is the only user I have on the system, and
was created during install.
