Can't run apport-collect on this bug as the machine involved in headless
(see Bug #556927), but I would be happy to provide information about my
hardware upon request.

** Summary changed:

- lucid boot hangs while init is running mountall, "could not write bytes:
Broken pipe"
+ lucid kernel hangs during boot when viafb is inserted

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: mountall
-
- As per the summary, lucid hangs during boot. I'm attaching the console
- output with --verbose.
+ Lucid hands during boot while init is running mountall with "could not
+ write bytes: Broken pipe". I'm attaching the console output with
+ --verbose.

Initially, I installed ubuntu-10.04-beta1-server-i386. I was unable to
boot due to this problem. Using the live media, I chrooted into my
  install and ran "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade" on April 5. As
this did resolve the problem, I am now filing this bug report.

  A few potentially useful vesrions:
  mountall 2.10
  plymouth 0.8.1-4ubuntu1
  upstart 0.6.5-6
  linux-image 2.6.32-19-generic-pae
