Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Problem description: After installing Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) the laptop resolution was set to 1024x768 instead of the native 1280x800. Attempting to change the resolution to 1280x800 (via System->Preferences->Screen resolution) leads to screen corruption (see attached image). Feisty Faw Herd 5 LiveCD exhibits the same behavior (I did not actually installed it on the HDD). Workaround: Adding the native resolution to xorg.conf makes it possible to change the resolution without getting screen corruption. Notes: 1 – The laptop seems to be supported on OpenSuSE 10.1 (see http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Laptops/Medion last entry in the list). I am downloading the SuSE 10.2 LiveDVD right now in order to give it a try. 2 – According to another note on http://www.math.hu-berlin.de/~kulshres/guestbook.php (german) both SuSE 10.1 and Fedora Core 5 run out of the box. 3 – This laptop comes preinstalled with Cyberlink PowerCinema for Linux (a media player running on a minimal Linux) and this runs correctly at the native resolution. Thanks to GPL&Co., a lot of source code (including xorg, kernel) is available at http://www.cyberlink.com/english/products/powercinema/pcm-linux/pcmlinuxgpl.jsp (150 MB download). It you need specific files from this big bundle let me know and I'll upload them here. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Incorrect resolution on Medion MD 97300 with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M https://launchpad.net/bugs/93078 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
