I wanted to confirm that this is still happening to me on Edgy with vlc version: 0.8.6.release-0ubuntu1~edgy1
It does not happen every time, but apparently randomly. Most of the time wxvlc closes normally when I click the X icon during playback. But maybe in one of every 4 or 5 cases I can still hear the sound although the window is gone. After "killall wxvlc" the sound stops. I watch mostly .avi files (xvid encoding), so I'm not sure if it happens with other formats as well. I think it happened also with some .wmv files (cannot check that very easily because it's not reproducible). My audio output module is set to "Default", I think that should be ALSA. My video output module is "OpenGL video output", I'm using the ATI fglrx drivers that came with edgy.
