(Looks as if the attachments in last message didnt make it, so here I try again)
I did steps 1-3 in your howto, and the attachments requested in step 5 are with this message.I didnt finish step 4, as the semi-graphical console program asked questions I didnt know the answer to, but did mess around and had a new xorg.conf saved; the original is attached also (xorg.conf.orig). The symptoms are, 1) When booting from live-cd, the dark console screen with the ubuntu logo shows bands of thin brown/red lines near the top. There is also a small ubuntu-colored residual at the left of the progress bar. 2) All is fine, Gnome logs in, but resolution is low (768x1024) and the System->Preferences->Screen Resolution doesnt offer higher resolutions. I wanted to make a screenshot btw, but found that the screenshot tool cannot take a region made with the mouse, but only whole windows .. can this be true .. or perhaps a bug as well?
