Public bug reported: Following most recent kernel update (downloaded & installed April 12, 2010), system refused to boot. Moved disk to a new system where it booted and received this error. I suspected a hardware issue except older Ubuntu instances, a Red Hat instance, and Windows XP will all boot on the "bad" system.
