Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I use Evolution on Hardy Heron (8.04 LTS 64-bit) for my daily e-mail management
at university (I'm a researcher). usually I use the pop3 server, but I can
switch to the imap one without any problem if needed (our university provides
both services and servers are in sync).
during the last weeks (maybe last month) I've had an almost null email flow,
while I'm used to receive something like 20 email per day (work, mailing lists
and so on...) from the pop3 server.

during the last week I've dedicated a bit of time to the issue by comparing the
content of my mailbox from the web interface (hodre) and then downloading
messages from the pop3 server. It was expected to see some messages from the
web interface and then find them inside evolution. on the opposite evolution
seems to:
1- download messages (no error is pointed out)
2- messages are removed from the pop3 server (I've refreshed the web interface
and I've not found available messages anymore)
3- messages are not showed in the "incoming" box.

NOTE: I've no filter active but one for a spam incoming from a specific
e.mail address not involved in the issue.

I've searched in any evolution folder hoping in a sort of weird
reposition of messages but I've _LOST_EVERYTHING_. as a matter of fact
I'm in doubt about my email flow for the last month.

in order to workaround the issue, I've modified evolution settings in
order to point to the imap server, keeping messages ion sync between the
imap server and the local client. as a matter of fact evolution can't
handle imap folders correctly: I've tryied to receive messages from the
IMAP server and messages are downloaded in _WRONG_ folders such trashcan
and so on...

in short evolution is not usable. being it a stock install of ubuntu I
wonder if some bug fixes have broken something in the very last weeks or
of evolution can't handle the huge amount of mail I've accumulated in 5+
years of usage.

bye,
M
