This issue still persists in lucid. I haven't tested the upstream kernel but I don't think there's any reason to suspect that it's fixed upstream.
The issue is that the definition of 100% is off for my soundcard. What are the ALSA files that define that? If someone can tell me that I can probably just patch upstream. -- Sound preferences allow for setting the volume to >100%.
