Running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (AMD64) with VLC version 1.0.5-2ubuntu3.
When playing a movie file which contains an AC3/Dolby Digital/DTS audio
stream, it is not output via SPDIF to an external decoder (i.e. doesn't
provide "passthrough" for the audio stream). This issue was also present
in the VLC version in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, however I got around it
by using a version from a PPA - vlc_1.0.2-1~ppa1~karmic2_amd64.
Note that it is not an issue with pulseaudio/alsa/etc since the
passthrough works perfectly with XBMC (XBox Media Centre) on the same
system with the same movie file(s).
Please let me know if there are any outputs or commands I can run to
assist with fixing this bug. It is a major usability issue for me and
I'm sure many other people. I'm happy to help in any way I can to get
this fixed ASAP! VLC is my media player of choice and I want to be able
to keep using it :)
