Pēteris, thanks! Your advice worked, I booted the Lucid daily build you
suggested, and voila, audio works. Guess I'll wait for Lucid release, or
may build kernel 2.6.32 for Karmic (commit
f0a221ef47df3cdde2123fe75ce3b61bb7df656d looks relevant).

Btw, per lspci output, my audio device is:
Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (Rev 03).

In Lucid /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 reports "Codec: Conexant 20561
(Hermosa)".

After I set the line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to "options snd-
hda-intel model=lenovo-x200", codec in /proc now reports the same thing,
as opposed to my earlier report in comment 133.
