The last updates I did were two days ago. There has been no change to the speed of the desktop loading; it is still 20+ seconds from login to a usable desktop. The 'hang' occurs after my login password is accepted - up to that point, the boot is quick as is shutdown. I already have disabled my floppy drive in BIOS as that being enabled, in the absence of a physical device being part of the hardware, caused hassles for me on 9.10. I will update to 10.04 rc when I get a chance over the next couple of days and report changes, if any.
