It looks like this bug is resolved according to JohnHills comment #2. The message "Lucent/Agere firmware doesn't support manual roaming" is indicative of bug #498336 where the card fails to work with the uncorrupted firmware. If you think that bug is the one you are experiencing, subscribe to it and select the "Does this bug affect you?" link at the top and change the status accordingly.
