I'm having the same or similar problem with 10.04 RC. It's happening with .ogv, .mp4 and .wmv files.
If I double-click on a movie file to play it, the screen is completely black. If I right-click on the picture area, I get a picture for a fraction of a second. If I click on one of the menus, the picture appears but a black rectangle remains where the menu was. If I go to full screen, it plays fine. I tried a .vob file (MPEG-video) and full-screen doesn't work when Totem is launched by double-clicking. Sound is normal in all cases.
