Is there anything new with this bug? I'm asking because it's an
absolute showstopper for me; My machine is relegated to XP until
something gets figured out...I'm too worried about damaging my HD. I
guess I was hoping that some ubuntu-geek-genius had found a way to solve
it.....

It seems, though, I suppose, from what I'm reading, that this isn't a
solvable problem from the ubuntu end of things, until something comes
out of the main kernel development folks? Or do I misunderstand the
process?

I filed a bug there under kernel bugzilla #7674 as well, but I can't
find anything updated or remotely new there either.
