If we cannot use scim in xterm, this is because scim XIM support module not loaded use the following command: scim -d -c socket -f x11 -e socket as normal user will start scim XIM module, then xterm can now input in SCIM. I had test that this works. So it seems that package maintainer should tune the scim startup scripts in ubuntu.
