I can confirm this, too, 3 different systems, 32 and 64 bit. Just an additional observation: You can mount USB drives implicitly e.g. using the Firefox save-as dialog. This dialog shows all USB drives and selecting one in the dialog mounts the drive. After that it is fully accessible but still not visible in Thunar bookmarks or on the desktop (as it is after logging in a second time).
