Revised my position on this - the huawei E620 is now working on RC release (with full updates). Can't understand this as it originally was not recognised by newtwork manager. I have removed the two .deb packages mentioned above and now the 3g modem is working without the usb-modeswitch packages. Let me know if you still need the apport code or not and whether you wish me to try the mainline kernel still. I am happy to if you think it will be helpful. Thank you for following this up as at present this is the only way I can connect to the internet - it was quite frustrating being unable to.
