Same (or similar) problem with ASUS X5DIJ running ubuntu-10.04-desktop-
amd64. Strange, since worked OK with 9.10 64 bit (ubuntu-9.10-desktop-
amd64).

Neither the function keys nor the panel applet actually affects the
brightness. The power management centre also has no effect.

Brightness-changing commands, issued using the function keys, appear to
get stacked, if issued in (not particularly) quick succession. I
surmise this because the brightness slider bar graphic randomly shows on
the top-right of the screen, several times, long after I have ceased
playing with the keys.

Other funny things: when I use the panel applet, I cannot slide it with
the mouse button, only by using the keyboard's up and down arrow keys,
and sometimes, when I have clicked upon the applet, the slider bar shows
at the top left of the screen, instead of above/below the applet.

I had allowed the 9.10 to 10.04 upgrade to run, which seemed to break
brightness control, as described. Subsequently, I resorted to a clean
10.04 installation, from the ISO image, but the behaviour remained the
same.

Thanks in advance to anyone who works to resolve this.
