I've experienced the same problem in Kubuntu on a (almost) clean installation.
I've installed from a heard5 live disk and done a few macbook related fixes such as resolution, and setting kde to use command in place of control for shortcuts. After dist-upgrading to the newest kernel I found myself without any access to keyboard after grub. I've repeated this experiment two times to verify that it wasn't in fact me that had done something stupid, and the error occurres afters dist- upgrade every time.
