Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

During install from the Lucid LTS live CD, I proceed to Step 3 -
Keyboard selection. I select the keyboard type, press "proceed" and the
install just hangs. I have waited over an hour for a response, and
nothing happens.

Can anyone suggest a way I can get past this? I have successfully
installed Lucid LTS on my EeePC 701 netbook at home, but using the same
live CD on my Acer Aspire at work, it hangs as above. I have verified
the MD5 checksum is correct.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to gather diagnostics, or of any
workarounds I might try. After looking through the threads on this forum
I have tried the "nomodeset" and removing "quiet splash" from the boot
options - bot made no difference at all.

If I allow the live CD to boot it all seems to go fine, and I get the
live system up on the PC. Trying to do an install from this system gives
me the same hang as it does without loading the live system first.

The only thing I can really add at present is that one time when I tried
installing from the live desktop, I had mounted a couple of partitions
on my hard drive first, and before the hang occurred it asked if I
wanted to dismount these partitions before continuing, so it seems it
hangs after completing keyboard setup and either just before or during
the part 4 which I assume will be looking at disk partitions and asking
where you want the system installed to.
