Sorry, looks like the wireless getting connected is just a coincidence -
sometimes, it happens at a slightly different time.

Two other things I noticed when the brightness events finally get processed:
1) Mouse pointer moves to the top left corner of the screen. (It always ends up 
there when the laptop wakes up, then moves there again.)
2) /var/log/syslog gets these messages:
May  2 13:28:48 dima-macbook acpid: client connected from 1009[0:0]
May  2 13:28:48 dima-macbook acpid: 1 client rule loaded
May  2 13:28:48 dima-macbook acpid: client connected from 1009[0:0]
May  2 13:28:48 dima-macbook acpid: 1 client rule loaded
