KyleSLinux - yes, I could boot and install any 32 bit but not 64 bit.

Update on the work around: Install Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64 bit version first.  8.04 
can be upgraded to 10.04 directly from a network connection as identified on 
this page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LucidUpgrades

Much quicker this way than from version 9.10.
