@Jeff Sereno It's more than an appearance problem, at least on my system. The ATI driver kept corrupting the boot loader itself, so I couldn't reboot more than a couple of times before it failed and I needed to reinstall. As I said, uninstalling it fixed the image appearance and the memory leak.
