Public bug reported:

I've done a fresh new installation of the final release of Lucid Lynx on
an empty partition.

Release: Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)
Gnome: 2.30.0
Kernel: 2.6.32-21-generic

My system is unluckly affected by the "blank screen bug"
see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...er/+bug/546578

Motherboard -> Intel D850GB (Garibaldi)
cpu -> Intel Pentium 4 - 2.0 GHz
graphic card -> ATI Radeon 9250 128 MB DDR
RAM  ->                 2.0 GB

                1024 MB (2x516) RIMM SAMSUNG 800 MHz

                1024 MB (2x516) RIMM SAMSUNG 800 MHz

I installed lucid creating an admin account checking the home encryption option.
Once finished the installation l logged in and created other users, some of
them with the command
sudo adduser fou --encrypted-home
others with the gui User settings tool under System > Administration > Users
and groups and checking the encryption option.

In my experience in none of them home encryption is working.
Here is my test:

1) logged in as admin user (first user created while installing)
2) switch user to a supposed encrypted user (both using the user switcher panel
applet or the indicator applet session)
3) switch back to admin and try to reach the encrypted user data using an
interactive sudo session and all documents are correctly decrypted (as the
encrypted user is logged)
4) switch again to encrypted user and terminate its session (both using the
user switcher panel applet or the indicator applet session)
5) log again back to admin (already opened session) and find through an
interactive sudo session that all the encrypted user data are still decrypted!
Only 1 time over 10 tests I found them encrypted.
6) any time I found them encrypted I rebooted and logged in again as admin user
(first user created while installing) and found the encrypted user data still
decrypted!

A few clarification:
- encrypted users are testing users created with admin / desktop / personalized
privileges
- the interactive sudo session I use is both:
a. press alt+f2 and type gksu nautillus and cd with the root window to
/home/user
b. or open a terminal and type sudo -i and cd to /home/user

Maybe this is concerned with the mentioned blank screen bug, as it seems
through forums that other lucid users, not affected by this bug, can
correctly encrypt their home folders. Maybe sessions of users affected
by the blank screen bug cannot be closed or suspended properly.

A last note:
using sysinfo tool Xorg version is signed as unknown.

Thank you.
