How to most easily reproducce and verify the audio crackling: 1) Start gstreamer-properties and do a sound test. This produces a sound which very easily reveals crackling. 2) Fire up a web browser and watch a Youtube video in fullscreen with Flash plugin (low volume). 3) Listen to the sound of pop corn popping.
