Affects me as well, every day. At first i thougt this had something to do with Ubuntu 9.04 so i switched to openSuSE 11.3 but the but is still there.
I'm using a Dell D620 laptop, and Nvidias propitary drivers. The program usually comes after using VLC to watch movies for ~35 minutes. The video starts to be slow like if i was playing it on a very old computer. After closing VLC, Gnome remains extremely unresponsive, but does not freeze.
