Fresh installation of Ubuntu Lucid x64 in VirtualBox 3.1.6 using bridged networking and VirtualBox's Intel PRO virtual device, the device seems to work properly until trying to install/upgrade software. See this forum thread for details: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1472340 Apparently, the network device corrupts "certain" files that are being downloaded...changing the VirtualBox virtual device to AMD PCNET-FAST III solves the problem.
