I found that both inverse and forward search for pdf work for kile+okular on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.
In the Configure kile setting, for Build option one needs to choose "modern" configuration for pdflatex. Then on pdf file just click Shift+Left mouse button. I think this advance will eliminate my need for dvi.
