Quoting a comment on another disk check related bug: "The Esc key is not supposed to skip the disk check. Bug #574983 is probably a misleadingly-described duplicate of bug #571707."
It would be worth comparing your issue with the one mentioned in that comment to see if you are experiencing the same problem.
