just another update here guys turns out that the problem stems from the kernel itself the ubuntu desktop kernel doesnt have gpt compiled into it. i used the ubuntu server install which in the kernel has gpt compiled and it seems to have solved the problems. would it be possible to get the desktop kernel compiled with gpt for lucid and mavrick?
