I too had this issue on 10.04. The wireless card was the one causing the problem as it was disabled on start-up. Using driver rt73usb for a Point of View Mobii ION mini notebook.
I rebooted several times and with different kernels. Both 2.6.32-21 and 2.6.32-22 provided the same error. I ended up removing the battery and AC adapter for a few minutes and all went back to normal... I hope it never come back though.
