you refer me to bug 178442, but that is specifically related to the
ICE1712 chipset cards...

I have also tried these cards and they won't work either:  creative SB
PCI128, turtle beach santa cruz, and onboard AC97

I'm new to linux and have spent 3 days trying to figure out OSS, ALSA,
Pulseaudio, etc, and my "intent" is simply to try & get one of my
soundcards working.

so are you saying I have to un-install OSS?  I thought I read that
ubuntu had "standardised" on ALSA?
