The issue is that dkms does not find a link named build in /lib/modules/2.6.32-22-generic pointing at the kernel sources.
The build link does exist in /lib/modules/2.6.32-22-server Workaround: Create a link /lib/modules/2.6.32-22-generic/build -> /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-22 the build works (dpkg-reconfigure dkms8-source). This should not be a wishlist item though, this is a major issue for the server distribution.
