Are you certain you aren't running your system out of ram/swap and
causing the Linux out of memory killer to kill the app? 256MB ram is the
minimum requirements to even install Ubuntu using the alternate cd (not
gui based installer) and if you are running multiple heavy apps you
could easily run out of memory. Also 256MB of ram is really way too
little even for just running OOo by itself, it takes 625MB just to start
without a document loaded so I imagine it is extremely slow and quite
swapped out.
