I added the lines: options snd_hda_intel model=laptop options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 enable=yes to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf on my NV53 running Lucid. Doing so restored the internal microphone to normal. Fixed in Skype as well.
